Utilizing Organic Materials to Build Urban Gardens

These videos demonstrate the ways in which organic materials can be direct applied to land through a layered or "lasagne bed" approach. A mix of carbon-heavy materials like newspaper, cardboard, biodegradable coffee cups, straw, wood mulch, or leaves can be mixed with food waste, animal manure, or coffee grounds to create highly fertile raised beds. This approach is commonly utilized in urban farming contexts where an abundance of waste materials can be used to accelerate the productivity of compacted urban soils.
